And so it begins...

The Supreme Court, today, starts hearing arguments that may affect the ability of Americans to own firearms.

For those of you rusty on your High School Civics, The Second Amendment states: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Apparently, to some people, this statement implies that only the State has the right to maintain a militia and its supporting arms to ensure its security. That's not what it says to me.

To me, it says that both the State and we the People have the right to bear arms. The People being the final check to the potential tyrannies of the State.

It is my belief that this Amendment makes the other Amendments possible. Do away with the Citizen's right to bear arms, and you might as well roll over America, because your prison wedding to tyranny has begun. Let me leave you with some quotes about the Second Amendment and gun control.

"One man with a gun can control 100 without one. ... Make mass searches and hold executions for found arms." --V.I. Lenin.

"Government begins at the end of the gun barrel." - Chaiman Mao

"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!"- Adolph Hitler [1935] The Weapons Act of Nazi Germany.

"[The Constitution preserves] the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation...(where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms." ---James Madison

"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive."---Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms. . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." -- Thomas Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774-1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

[A]rms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. . . Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them." -- Thomas Paine, Thoughts On Defensive War, 1775
