Drilling in ANWR... what they don't want you to know:

Go check out this article at The Discerning Texan. It will open your eyes about drilling in ANWR. And by that, of course, I mean you will be surprised that we haven't started already.

Now, I'll have you know, I am strongly in favor of the development of new and alternative forms of energy, as well as an increased reliance and further maturation of the field of nuclear power.

I also believe it is vital to our country's future security to develop and maintain domestic sources of energy to meet our needs, such that we can stop relying on oil from evil and petty dictators throughout the world. (This includes, but is not limited to: Venezuela, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Canada.) (Not really, Canada, just checking to see if you were paying attention)

I think that a couple of reindeer will have to take a back seat to national security. After all, if the nation isn't secure, neither is its reindeer. How do you think Russia, in our situation, would deal with the wildlife "problem" posed by ANWR drilling?

By invading Alaska with columns of tanks, of course! Can't let those pesky reindeer harass our troops stationed in the break-away province of ANWR, can we?

Obama and McCain on Taxes...

This is something you should be aware of so you don't get blind-sided. This is going to catch a lot of families off guard. Proposed changes in taxes after 2008 General election:

0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples) McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.
28% on profit from ALL home sales
How does this affect you?
If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.

MCCAIN 15% (no change)
OBAMA 39.6%
How will this affect you?
If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned in taxes if Obama become president.
The experts predict that 'higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.

MCCAIN (no changes)
Single making 30K - tax $4,500 Single making 50K - tax $12,500 Single making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 60K- tax $9,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250
(Reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts) Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 125K - tax $38,750
Under Obama your taxes will more than double! How does this affect you?
No explanation needed. This is pretty straight forward.

MCCAIN 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)
OBAMA Restore the inheritance tax
How does this affect you? Many families have lost businesses, farms and ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will not only lose them to these taxes.

* New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet
* New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already)
* New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity)
* New taxes on retirement accounts
* New taxes to pay for socialized medicine (so we can receive the same level of medical care as third-world countries)

Is this the change you are/were looking for ??

Research the net if you do not believe these – here are a couple of sites.

Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest

"Hmm . . ." thought Abigail as she gazed languidly from the veranda past the bright white patio to the cerulean sea beyond, where dolphins played and seagulls sang, where splashing surf sounded like the tintinnabulation of a thousand tiny bells, where great gray whales bellowed and the sunlight sparkled off the myriad of sequins on the flyfish's bow ties, "time to get my meds checked."

This is just for fun.

Why I'm Voting Democratic

I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

I'm voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

I'm voting Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four pointy headed elitist liberals need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that when the terrorists don't have to hide from us over there, when they come over here I don't want to have any guns in the house to fight them off with.

I'm voting Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

Makes you wonder how anyone would EVER vote Republican, now doesn't it?

(thanks to Scary Larry for the forward)

New Leader Of The Free World?

John McCain seems to have an understanding of world issues that are lacking in the Obama campaign. He seems to be ahead of the curve of a lame duck president, as well. Check out Power Line's erudite observation.

Semper Fi

It is comforting that they are on our side!

Marine Corps Rules:

1. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.

2. Decide to be aggressive enough, quickly enough.

3. Have a plan.

4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won't work.

5. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not start with a '4.'

7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.

8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral & diagonal preferred.)

9. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.

10... Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.

11... Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.

12. .. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.

13... If you are not shooting, you should be communicating your intention to shoot.

14. Expect to be given vague & contradictory rules of engagement.

15. Expect to be charged by some civilian JAG officer when you do your job too well.

16. Expect to have Congressman with D's after their names say nasty things about you & your unit because they assume you're guilty.

17. After about 12 months of being under arrest all charges will be dropped and all your detractors will act like it never happened.

Homeless - Occam's Razor

"Now this is one of the very reasons I moved from the Demos to the Repubs. I was tired of getting junk email wanting me to give to some left wing organization to save the tsetse fly from extinction or to start a gay club or some such crap!!

The story goes......

I was talking to a friend's little girl, and she said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her,

"If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?"

She replied, "I'd give houses to all the homeless people."

"Wow - what a worthy goal." I told her, "You don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow, pull weeds, and rake my yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward a new house."

She thought that over for a few seconds 'cause she's only 6. And while her Mom glared at me, she looked me straight in the eye and asked, Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50? (/Occam)"

And I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

Her folks still aren't talking to me."

Before everyone thinks that I am heartless, I work for an organization that whose main purpose is to help veterans who are homeless (but need a positive motivation for change). The veteran aspect of my work goes very well. I also serve on a county task force to end homelessness. The concept is admirable, but I am out numbered. Too many social workers who are trying to save the world because their childhood was screwed up (personal opinion). The majority concept is that if just housing is provided, then homelessness will be eliminated. Am I missing something?
